India has an extremely large amount of people living in the country. In India, there are about 1,173,108,018 people living in the country. India has the second largest population in the world behind China which has about 1,330,141,295 living in the country.  It is expected that in the future, India will have the highest population in the world. India has a growth rate of 1.376% while China only has a growth rate of 0.494%. India will pass China in population in a few years because of the huge difference in population growth rate. Because India has so many people living in the country, it is hard to educate everyone in the country. The literacy rate of India is only 61% of the total population can read. One of the huge problems of the population of India being so large is that the country has a high poverty rate. Twenty five percent of the population of India live under the poverty line. This means that one of four people who live in India live under the poverty line. There are many problems that come with the poverty rate being so high. First it is hard for many people to get food and clean water to drink. One of the reasons this is so difficult is that many of the rivers don’t have clean water.  One of the major rivers, the Yamuna River, has a lot of pollution due to many of the large companies in India dumping industrial waste into the river. The Yamuna River is one of the largest rivers in India and it is located in the city of New Delhi. Another reason for the lack of clean water is that India does not have very good sewage systems so a lot of the sewage ends up in the Yamuna River. The city of New Delhi has 17 million people living there so this is a big problem for the government of India.  

Another large city in India is Mumbai. The population of Mumbai is 13 million. In the city of Mumbai there are many slums. Life can be very hard for the people living in the slums of Mumbai. A sum is an area where a lot of people who are poor live because it is not very expensive to live there. In India’s slums there are a lot of people who get money to buy food and water by begging for money. They will do almost anything to get money. Some of the things they will try is making people feel bad for them, showing off talents on the street for money, scamming, and even stealing from people. The slums of India aren’t a very good place to live. 

Human trafficking is when people are recruited, transported, transferred, and harbored against their will by force or threat. There are a lot of reasons people in India are involved in human trafficking. For some people, human trafficking happens because of dangers in the area. For example, there are gangs in the cities of India that might be threatening to some people. The problem is a lot of people are being trafficked because of threats.
